Performance

Kate Hilder

I perform improvisation: each piece is created in the moment without any preconceived idea or theme. I weave together movement, voice, text and song and embrace dance, humour and storytelling. Minimal in terms of set and costume, I create intricate, colourful landscapes which are a poetic expression of my feelings, emotions and imagination.
I am fascinated by the content that arises in performance, like in dreams it emerges from a mysterious place that the cognitive mind can’t access. Every performance is a new and surprising journey that unfolds in front of me and the audience at the same time. We are all in unknown territory, anything may happen and this creates a sense of anticipation and wonder.

I have performed ensemble pieces with EAT (European Action Theatre), duets and solos across Europe since 2005. I am currently focusing on my solo performance practice. I have had a peer exchange with Seke Chimuntengwende, UK dancer and choreographer, for many years and my mentors include Guy Dartnell (UK) and Andrew Morrish (Aus). I have also worked with choreographers: Evangelia Kolyra, Jane Munro, G.Hoffman Soto and Emma Roberts.

I have stepped onto stages at festivals in Berlin, Estonia and Gothenburg, dance studios in London, Lucerne and Limerick, theatres in Brighton, Biel and Helsinki and residencies in the mountains of Italy and France.
